The Rev. Cynthia Jackson – Associate Priest

I have been at St. Mark's Church since October 2001 as one of the Parish's Associate Priests, (Non-Stipendary Clergy), having moved from St. Matthew'sChurch after retiring from my paid employment in December 2000.

I trained for the ordained ministry on the Southwark Ordination Course (now the South East Institute for Theological Education) whilst continuing in my paid employment as an Administrative Manager for the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. I considered myself as a Minister in Secular employment – my Monday to Thursday work in Social Services being as important as my time working in the Parish in my "uniform" on Friday to Sunday.

In addition to leading, preaching and assisting on a Sunday and in other acts of worship at St. Mark`s I have as a special interest introducing times of quiet and reflection into the life of the Church.

Visiting members of the congregation, especially the housebound and sick, and providing support to the Sunday Club Leaders is another important aspect of ministry at St. Mark`s, although there never seems to be enough time!

I support and encourage the Sacristans, Servers, Readers and Intercessors.

In my spare time I have been studying over the last six year for a B.A. (Hons)Degree  in the Humanities with Religious  and Classical Studies with the Open University. Those studies are now complete so I will be taking time out in the New Year to reflect on six years of study and eleven years of ordained ministry!
