All the youth activities at St
Marks are centred towards providing a relaxed environment and great meeting
place for teenagers. We offer young people an experience of the living God
within the context of their daily lives. 13-18 is a crucial year group; it is a
time of excitement and challenges to faith, but also a time when young people
will be seeking greater independence until ultimately they leave school and home
for university or a career.
We encourage young people through
a variety of events and learning opportunities to investigate their faith and
the relevance of the Bible to our lives today. Life is not always easy as a
teenager and it can be especially challenging and fraught with conflicting
emotions, thoughts and beliefs. We try to address some of these challenges and
struggles though relevant discussions as well as providing a safe and happy
environment where young people can make friends and ask questions. We would
like our sessions to ensure that young people have the strongest foundation
possible to continue in faith, no matter what life throws at them.
Each session also allows very
important social time. We enjoy table tennis, bowling, football and organise a
number of social events throughout the year. One of our highlights is the
annual football match against St Mary’s Youth Group, also based in Wimbledon.
Outings give us time together and this month we are looking forward helping each
other and building camaraderie as we dangle from razor wires and go round the
daring assault course at Go Ape!
Our youth group is run by our
young, trendy vicar and two friendly volunteers. We meet on Sunday evenings at
6.30pm during term time in our church hall.
The Christian journey is an
exciting, lifelong adventure. As we encounter Jesus our lives become transformed
by the experience and we are blessed with a rich deep faith through which we can
continue to live. Come with us on the journey.
