Richard comes to St Mark's having served his
curacy at St Mary's Church, Putney. Richard commented on his appointment
saying, I
am looking forward to working in such a vital, inclusive and friendly church.
Richard & his wife JulieAnne, who is a
teacher-trainer and also studying to be counsellor, will be moving to Wimbledon
with their two young children Nathaniel and Eliana.
Two weeks into Richards new post, St Marks is
taking part in Open Churches Week which is running throughout the Diocese of
Southwark. During the week of 19th September, the church will be
open each day from 12noon 2pm
and Saturday 10 until 4pm. This will offer the local business community an
opportunity to see the glorious and unusual modern stained glass windows, as
well as viewing a special celebratory exhibition of photographs showing the
story and life of St.Marks.
Visitors will also be welcome to enjoy the peaceful Galustian gardens behind the
church, to relax and perhaps bring your sandwich lunch!
In the middle of Open Churches Week, Lisa
Wright, an ordained minister and author, will present her one woman show
Spilling
The Beans.
The show is made up of true stories of a Vicars
wife in the 1950s, originally told in letters to her daughter, Lisa who was
working in America. When performed at the Edinburgh Festival in 2004, it was a
sell out show. Reviews included,
I
was completely entranced,
a touchingly intimate portrait of a
vicarage family
and a
monologue Alan Bennett would have been proud of.
It is surely a show not to be missed! This one night performance takes place in
St.Marks
church at 8.00pm on Wednesday 21st September. Tickets are £5 and include a
glass of wine. For further information contact Jane Long 020 8944 7358 or The
Rev'd Gilly Pawson 020 8286 1030.
Everyone is invited to join us for this
performance - we hope you can come along. The Rev'd Richard Sewell together
with the people of St.Marks
look forward to meeting you during Open Churches Week.
